Learn to quilt and make a cute origami-style pouch perfect for putting little gifts and sweets in, or used as a decoration.

You will decorate and quilt some fabric; add a lining and ribbon tie and then with some clever manipulation turn our flat fabric into a 3D Christmas tree style shape.

Katharine Wright, Leicestershire Craft Centre

Owner of Leicestershire Craft Centre, Katharine has been crafting all her life. Her particular passions are dressmaking, patchwork and embroidery and passing her knowledge onto new sewists. She loves to try her hand at any other crafts though and enjoys glass fusion, silversmithing, knitting and crochet.

Katharine teaches at a variety of national Craft Events and appears as a Guest Demonstrator on Sewing Street TV. She also has her own range of sewing and dressmaking patterns called Top Stitch Makes.

Since launching ‘Living In Loveliness’ 11 years ago, Kerrie’s passion for teaching and super-cute fabrics has blossomed and grown even more. With sewing classes and sewing retreats from beginners to the more advanced sewers, plus her fabulous range of sewing kits and patterns.

Explore using repeat patterns, borders and multi colour printing. Using hand carved Indian printing blocks to block print either a cushion cover, Turkish hand towel or a large toiletry pouch.

MIXED MEDIA SHROOM PINCUSHION with Alex Hellawell – Saturday 28th September 2024 09.45am

2-hour workshop – cost £36.00

Add a little woodland magic to your sewing table with this beautiful versatile pincushion that also has a holder for your small thread scissors too.

In this class you will be using mixed media to:

Create a Shroom stem with a tin foil armature, wrapped in Quick Cure Clay (QCC)

  • Sew and stuff your pincushion head
  • Paint your stem using acrylics
  • Attach Shroom base to wooden slice using a hot glue gun
  • Attach pincushion head

  • Use tacky glue to attach moss to Shroom base.

Advisory Note:

Not suitable for children under 12 years of age due to the heat of the clay and hot glue. Adult supervision is required. Open to ALL abilities

Alex Hellawell

Alex is a mixed media clay artist who creates whimsical, colourful, dark imaginative sculptures. She uses clay, paint, paper and found objects to craft sculptures and wall pieces, these can be playful, quirky and charming or dark and brooding.

FESTIVE RUDOLPH DORSET BUTTON BROOCH with Gini’s Dorset Buttons – Saturday 15.15pm

Join Gini, winner of Kirsty’s Handmade Christmas, and learn how to make the traditional craft of Dorset buttons with a twist. Create this fun festive little Rudolph brooch and hear all about the history of this 400-year old craft.

Louise Armitage, aka ‘Gini’

Gini has been teaching and keeping the 400-year old traditional craft of Dorset Buttons alive for 33 years.

Originally taught by an old lady from Dorset, who’s family skill had been passed down through generations, and now had no one left to pass it on to. Gini made her a promise that she would teach other people and continue to pass on the skills. Gini has kept this promise and taught individuals and workshops all over the UK and around the world.

Bringing the skill up to date with modern ideas and techniques she won Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas with her unique designs in 2020. 

NEEDLE FELTED LARGE YULE TOMTE with Steffi Stern, The Makerss – Saturday 13.15pm

90-minute workshop – cost £25.00

Learn how to needle felt this large Yule Tomte with his soft white beard, long pointy hat and striped arms with mittens using just natural and fast felting wool and felting needles.

Steffi Stern, will teach you techniques and tricks on how to make basic shapes and join them together and add shapes to the surface. Steffi’s style is supportive, encouraging and fun filled.

Take your bearded Tomte home together with any left over wool, The Makerss Eco Wool Felting Mat, felting needles and full colour step-by-step instructions.

A complete boxed needle felting kit is included in this workshop.

The finished size is about 25cm tall.

Steffi Stern

German born Steffi Stern is a craft enthusiast and has been crafting for as long as she can remember. In 2010 Steffi turned her passion into her profession when she opened her first craft shop in Gloucestershire.

Fast forward to today and she now runs the successful craft business The Makerss. She has written four books on needle felting and doll making. Steffi loves combining her business experience with her passion of crafting and helping others to realise their creativity. Steffi’s teaching style is supportive, encouraging and fun filled.

Lynne McGill

Lynne started her sole trader business of LinPin Crafts after a successful career in nursing and has always maintained a love of art, photography and craft.

She lives with her family in the outskirts of Glasgow and is a member of craft co-operatives and attends events, shows and holds classes in needle felting.

LEARN PUNCH NEEDLE WITH THE MODERN CRAFTER with Rachel Lawson, The Modern Crafter – Saturday 10.15am

Learn how to punch needle with Punch Needle book author, Rachel from The Modern Crafter.

During this 90 minute workshop you will learn the mindful and relaxing craft punch needle to make your own mini hoop gift topper using 100% British Wool.

Rachel will teach you the technique and provide you with her knowledge on this traditional craft.

Rachel Lawson

The Modern Crafter is co-run by sisters, Rachel and Siobhan who hand design and make by hand, punch needle and embroidery kits with a focus on using sustainable materials. Siobhan is the designer for the brand who studied Fashion & Textiles at Heriot Watt in Galashiels. The duo is also author of Punch Needle, 15 Contemporary Projects and has been featured in various Craft magazines.

ENGLISH PAPER PIECING with Susan Finlay, Sew Confident – Saturday 14.15pm

90-minute workshop – cost £25.00

English Paper Piecing is a method of patchwork where fabric is wrapped around shapes made of thin paper or cardboard. Once the shapes are covered in fabric you will then hand stitch them together to form a design.

SewConfident quilting tutor Susan will take you through the whole process and share all her hints and tips for to produce a beautiful design that can be used as part of a quilt or as a decoration on another me made item.  This is a lovely, mindful project that you don’t need any prior sewing experience to be able to participate in.

Susan Finlay

Susan Finlay, Sew Confident Susan has been sewing for as long as she can remember, having been taught as a child to sew and knit by her Mum and Gran. For the last 12 years Susan has enjoyed patchwork and quilting and for the last 10 running a business making memory quilts and memory animals. When not sewing for her business Susan enjoys English Paper Piecing as it is such a relaxing craft to do, as it’s all hand stitched it makes it fairly portable and so easy to carry about

MACRAME ANGEL DECORATION with Laura Mitchell, Sew Confident – Saturday 11.45am
