SWEDISH WILLOW STAR with Rachel Harwood – Thursday 31st October 2024 10.00am

2 hour workshop – cost £36.00

Join Rachel to make a beautiful Swedish Star. Using British willow you will learn how to create this intricate looking but simple once you know how star, which you can then replicate at home.

You will use different colours of willow to make the body of the star and finish the ends with a willow wrap tie. Your star will be approximately 60cm wide and suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

Rachel Harwood

Rachel has been working with willow for over 10 years now and teaches many workshops mainly on decorative sculpture work for the home and garden. Rachel is a member of the Basket Makers Association. Her work is heavily influenced by nature and the outdoors. Willow is a fantastic material that lends itself to a variety of uses and its sustainability credentials make it perfect for today’s climate.

DRESSMAKING – SIZING AND PATTERN ALTERATIONS with Helen Rhiannon – Thursday 31st October 2024 15.00pm

Based on Helen’s award winning book: Dressmaking. The Easy Guide, you will learn how to measure yourself accurately and how to choose the right sizes to work with.

Helen will then demonstrate how to trace off a pattern accurately before demonstrating how to carry out simple pattern alterations to get a perfect fit. This workshop is for anyone who wants to learn how to draft dress and top patterns for themselves, as well as alter commercial patterns.

Helen Rhiannon is a successful Bridalwear designer, bestselling author, and sewing expert. Helen is best known for her bestselling book, ‘Dressmaking The Easy Guide’, which teaches the reader to pattern cut clothes that fit and flatter each unique person. Angela Smith

Angela Smith is a polymer clay, beadwork artist and tutor based in Northampton.

She first discovered beads while at university, but when she happened upon polymer clay at a bead fair it seemed a logical progression to start creating her own beads. Fast forward a few years and Angela now divides her time between beadwork and experimenting with surface techniques and millefiori caning to create one-off sets of beads and cabochons to incorporate into her beaded designs. 

Not content with ‘just’ creating beads, Angela also uses polymer clay to create cute clay characters and bespoke miniature tableaux to commemorate that special occasion.

As well as the joy of creating Angela also enjoys spreading the polymer clay word and is a regular tutor and exhibition co-ordinator for the British Polymer Clay Guild. 

FELTED FLOWERS with Ursula Westwood – Thursday 31st October 2024 10.00am

90 minute workshop – cost £30.00

At this fun workshop you will learn how to create a beautiful flower using the resist method of wet felt making. Using soft Merino wool in gorgeous colours, you’ll create a stunning piece of art to take home.

Working with Ursula who is an experienced felt maker with over 20 years’ experience, you’re in good hands to explore this therapeutic craft. Expect lots of fluffy wool, old towels, bubblewrap and plenty of soap!

Advisory Note:

Some knowledge of felt making would be beneficial, but not essential as lots of guidance will be given! Suitable from ages 12 upwards, but under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Ursula is a felt artist and has been making felt since 2002, supplying felt bags, cushions, felt paintings and flowers to shops and galleries throughout the UK.

Ursula is fascinated by the history of felt making and loves drawing with the vibrant colours of the wool. Felt making for Ursula is highly satisfying and makes her happy!

Come and make a star necklace in this fun taster silversmithing class with tutor Naim.

Using a randomly assigned star shaped gemstone, we will teach you to saw and file the sterling silver setting for the stone. Then fit the setting to hold the star stone securely, shape the bail for the chain and finally, polish to a shine.

Naim Roseby and Laura Weston

Naim and Laura are sister silversmiths. They run Calla Crafts and Obsidian Butterfly and were retail managers until they decided to retrain as silversmiths. Naim and Laura love making quirky things in their Leicester workshop and love helping people to make beautiful things using fun tools. Naim will be teaching these classes at the event and Laura manning their stand.

Nicki Gunn, Daisy’s 60 minute Crafts

Nicki is a trained teacher who spent many years inspiring young and old to embrace learning something new. Nicki studied Education at University focusing on Art (textiles) and Music.

After a successful career in Education Nicki decided to follow her true love of crafting and ‘Daisy’s 60 Minute Crafts’ was born in 2019, named after her late Grandma.

Nicki’s mission is to encourage people to ‘make time to craft’ finding the joy in setting aside a little time to be creative with their hands. She does this by designing projects that are accessible to all levels of crafters, whilst giving her clients a taste of new and exciting crafts and techniques.

Nicki teaches a multitude of crafts nationally online via her popular 60 Minute Craft Club and face-to-face across Shropshire and Herefordshire.

A lovely introduction to the art of Pyrography, burning designs into wood. Hannah will guide you safely through the use of the pyrography tool and you will design and decorate a 15cm wooden Christmas tree decoration.
